Martha´s Vineyard and Cape Cod

And again here we go with our little Chinese friends on a tour bus. This time we were heading to the North. New England here we come!
Massachusetts: I was already once before in this area! Last time i was on the trip with Kendra and we visited Boston and the Rhode Islands (Vanderbilt Mansion) which are pretty close to Cape Cod and Martha´s Vineyard where Lisa and I were heading this time for three days.

First stop was the Island Martha´s Vineyard.
We crossed the Vineyard Sound Bay by Ferry after that we went to the Gay Head Cliffs (chalk cliffs) and light house at the North West coastline of the Island.
Unfortunately it rained this day but we were lucky because each time we left the shuttle bus it stopped raining.
We walked past the Gingerbread Cottages which are a series of colored houses. I ate fresh lobster on a roll and we saw a beatiful sunset at the beach.
It´s calm and it appears as if the time had stopped for a little while. This is one of the reasons why presidential families often spend their summer vacations on this beautiful island.

The next day we left for Provincetown which is located at northern end of Cape Cod.
We went to the beach where I accidentally touched a huge crab which i thought to be dead :)

After this went Whale watching on a Dolphin Fleet boat which is run  by animal activists and researchers. Two hours later we still haven´t seen a single whale and we already gave our hopes up. But on a sudden we came to the spot where apparentely the feeding grounds of the Humpback Whales were this day and we saw plenty! They come to this area each summer/fall to nourish for winter.
They always swam in groups of 2 or 3 and some even came up right next to our boat.
We saw their jaws wide open when they emerged fom the ocean and we saw them spout little fountains while they were breathing.
When we were about to return to the harbour one of the whale´s jumped out of the water, flipped and crashed onto the surface. It seemed like a little light dolphin but actually this takes up a lot of their energy... there must have been a lot to eat!
It was an amazing adventure!

A little windy and direct exposure to the sunlight without wearing sunscreen may not have been the best but it was still really impressive to see these huge memmals!

Day 3: we drove to Plymouth the place where the Mayflower with the first British colonists landed in 1620. We got a tour through a historic village of the Native Indians who lived there and the British Colony. Moreover we learned about the history of the first attempts to settle and survive in this area and where the roots of the Thanks Giving celebration were.
